Another Vaginal Infection?!!
The Ongoing Struggle with Vaginal Infection
A visit to the OBGYN with another vaginal infection can be embarrassing and often times a humiliating experience. As I entered my 40’s it seemed as though I found myself in the doctor office or urgent care after hours, once a month, sometimes more, desperately seeking relief to another daunting vaginal infection. In my case, it could have been any of the following, a bacterial infection, yeast infection, no infection at all, a pap smear with abnormal cells, a pap with normal cells, irritation, pain, or other discomforts. Needless to say, I was frustrated, completely stressed about missing work to go to another appointment, stressed about the table with stirrups, and left with a feeling that I was being judged by my own practitioner.
Taking Control of Recurrent Infection with Vikor Scientific
At the time I was not armed with any knowledge of the peri-menopausal symptoms I would go on to endure in my 40’s, I had to take matters into my own hands and gain control of these infections. I was fortunate to have been paired with a wonderful Physician Assistant, who unfortunately did not stay at the practice however, I was lucky to have crossed paths with her as she introduced me to a URINE-ID testing product produced by Vikor Scientific (www.vikorscientific.com). Vikor Scientific is an Infection Disease LAB/PCR Technology that turned out to be the savior of my vaginal health and provided me with much needed confidence and relief replacing the anxiety and discomforts that usually prevail with any vaginal infection.
This deep dive testing enabled me to see the details of my vaginal bacteria. Vikor Scientific makes antibiotic treatment recommendations based on resistant genes detected, therefore increasing the likelihood to eradicate the infection in one treatment. Only one visit and you will receive your PCR LAB results in 24/48 hours with a pharmacy guidance when it’s necessary. You do not have to be suffering and waiting for many days. This helped to eliminate the trial and error of various antibiotics and creams that lead to other infections, symptoms, and another trip to the doctor office.
Vikor Scientific’s report/results lead me to discover an HPV flare up, which I had no trace of since college, was a high strain, potential cervical cancer and seemed to be present when Strep B was present. In the words of Oprah Winfrey this was my “aha moment” and finally, I was on to something! Per Vikor Scientific’s pharmacy guidance recommendations, I was once and for all able to eradicate this infection.

Home Testing and Monitoring with Evvy
In addition to Vikor Scientific I came across an at home testing product my vagina was also very happy to see, Evvy. I quickly signed up for the quarterly testing kit and if I felt an infection coming on prior to the quarterly ship date, I’d order another Evvy kit and they would send asap. Evvy doesn’t get as detailed as Vikor Scientific but, it is certainly very helpful with keeping track of the various bacteria present (please note I am not being paid by any of these products mentioned in this blog, I am a regular product user and a huge fan of all).
Today, I’m happy to report my vigilant vaginal investigative work paid off, I have been infection free and have not been on antibiotics or medicated creams for over a year!
Below are some tips to help take control of your vaginal health and support a strong microbiome:
Tips for Taking Control of Your Vaginal Health and Supporting a Strong Microbiome
- Break up with your practitioner if you are not comfortable, there are wonderful practitioners who listen and will provide proper care with compassion and education.
- In your 40’s your vagina starts to change, literally. The fluctuation of hormones and loss of elasticity, and thinning of the vaginal wall, infections can become more prevalent. UTI’s, Yeast Infections, and Bacterial Vaginosis can become more frequent, HPV that may have laid dormant for years, begins to rear it’s ugly head.
- Too many antibiotics can create more dysbiosis in both the vaginal and gut microbiomes, do your investigative work to ensure you are taking the proper medication.
- Start tracking your vaginal bacteria, if your practitioner does not have the Vikor Scientific swab in office, recommend they reach out to the company to get one. Establish an account with Evvy, they provide you with regular newsletters on vaginal health care and you have the option to meet with a coach once your test results are finalized and is included in the cost of the test.
- Vaginal strain probiotics (lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus rhamnosus, lactobacillus fermentum) are your friend. I wish I knew this in my late 30’s to start preparing my vagina for what was to come in my 40’s. I’m sure there are many on the market but these are two options that have worked for me.
- Estradiol Vaginal Cream
- Nutrition is key! If God didn’t make it, don’t eat it!
- Stay hydrated, infuse water with lemons or cucumbers
- Do your best to eliminate alcohol
- Stress can aggravate your infection
- Do Not Smoke
- Supplement:
- Omegas: DHA + EPA
- D3 with K
- Vitamin C (too much can cause loose stool, if constipated this may be your friend)
- Magnesium Glycinate (relaxing, can help with sleep) or Magnesium L-threonate (crosses blood brain barrier)
- Collagen with Verisol and Fortibone
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Consult with your pharmacist or practitioner if you are taking other medications before adding new supplements
Cheers to a happy and healthy vagina!
